Top Ten Most Meaningful Songs in Your Life

1) Idioteque by Radiohead
Favourite song automatically takes first place. I cried when I saw this song live. Cried, people!

2) Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana
Clearly a staple on most people's lists, although it's true in my case. Grade 3. Rainy day, hence the indoor lunchtime. I wanted to listen to my Celine Dion or Weird Al tapes, but Alistair Murray-Lawson wanted to listen to his tape. It was by some band called Nirvana and there was a naked baby on the cover. And thus it began.

3) Crush by Jimmy Eat World / Goodbye Sky Harbor by Jimmy Eat World / If You Don't, Don't by Jimmy Eat World
All three of these songs remind me of weird things...The first two remind me of the kick-assiest summer ever and the last one reminds me of getting ready to go out when I was in grade 9. I can't really think of why that makes it meaningful, but whatever.

4) Back and To The Left by Texas Is The Reason
Exposed me to a whole screwed up world of obscure bands and forgotten songs. But a really cool screwed up world, like Narnia.

5) Basket Case by Green Day
If "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was the song that pointed me in the direction of the cliff, "Basket Case" was the song that made me jump.

6) The Passing of America by Moneen
For some reason, this just feels like it should be on here. Like, it would be wrong of me to not put it. I can find no real explaination for this, other than the fact that the Moneen shows I have seen are on the same level in terms of intensity as Radiohead shows, and "The Passing of America", to me, is like Moneen's "Idioteque". No, not just because it is the only other song in concert that has made me cry. Because it's amazing, you fool.

7) Tomorrow by Thievery Corporation
Up until I heard this song, my only exposure to ambient music was in birth control commercials. No one could understand why I got so excited when the commercial for Diana birth control would come on, although I suspect they thought I was a slut. Oh well. Just the price one has to pay for good ambient music.

8) Clara by the Ataris
The Ataris sum up a whole three years of my life rather nicely. Sad? Maybe. Pathetic? Kinda. Convienient if I ever want to remember those three years? Fuck yeah.

9) Moondance by Michel Bublé
Yeah, I know. Kinda new, kinda weird. Risky, even. Regardless, this song will forever remind me of New Years Eve in Antalya. You have not fully appreciated this song until you have heard it sung by an Australian and a Canadian (other than the Bublster himself). Sums up this exchange year perfectly.

10) Bittersweet Symphony by the Verve
I guess I'll throw this one on here becuase I'm at a complete loss. The first time I heard this song I was lying in a snowy field late at night watching fireworks. Although not one of the most meaningful songs, that was a pretty kick-ass way to hear this song for the first time. Probably could be subsitiuted with "Millennium" by Robbie Williams. Shut up, he's awesome.

***BONUS***
All of I Am The Movie by Motion City Soundtrack
I'd like to believe that even though Radiohead are my favourite band, the fact that this is my absolute favourite CD must be a testament to how un-frigging-believeable Motion City Soundtrack are. Seriously. This whole CD is meaningful to me, although "My Favourite Accident" is arguably the most meaningful song. Christine can attest to this. "Play it again!" "Theresa, you watch this video every time you come over. I really don't wan-" "PLAY!" I also <3<3<3<3 "a-ok", "Mary Without Sound", "Boombox Generation/Don't Call It A Comeback", and "Cambridge".
